If you live in the mountains you can't help but notice the groups of cars parked on the side of the road and people lined up with their cell phones trying to capture the local wildlife. Whether it's a herd of elk, a pair of sandhill cranes or a momma moose and her calf, these animals certainly grab our attention. After moving to Park City 6 years ago it wasn't long before I had my first close up encounter with a Moose who wanted to see what I was working on in my studio.
Another frequent visitor who is hard to miss are Magpie birds. They are big, black and white birds who are very loud, especially at 5:30am in the morning!! They can also be quite aggressive, just ask my rescue dog, Lexi :) Their flock will tag team to swoop down and taunt her to no end :) She loves it! I also started to notice that whenever there was a moose there usually was a magpie not too far away.
So I had an idea..... and sketched out my inspiration on paper first.
I then grabbed my camera, headed outdoors and started creating my first collection of fine art prints featuring these two favorites. Moose & Magpies is a collection of 8 unique pieces, in my storytelling style, that not only celebrate the unique friendship among these two species but also give 'ode to some of the history Park City is known for.
